My short trip to Egypt- I knew it would happen

November 7 at 11:41am
I knew it would happen....God knew it would happen....it happened. After throwing up several times Friday night (gunk in my throat- gag- barf- like mother like son!) It was all the hamburger soup I had eaten for supper, which caused a horrible acid burn in my throat. I had to have something to get that out- I had what felt like a chunk just still sitting there. The open bag of pretzels was sitting there- exactly what I needed to get this lump and taste out. I ate a handful.... it definitely helped...but I knew I should not have eaten them.
Then..it happened again but worse. There was the basket of Halloween candy I have resisted all this time.... without too much of a second thought I ate 3 mini Twix bars.
Oh, my aching heart.
What have I done?
106 days all comes down to this?
3 mini Twix bars?
Really?
I felt my old self screaming to get out. I gave into the flesh for a minute- enough time to get them down.
I felt instant disappointment and shame.
The lies started flooding in.
I prayed before the Lord that night and asked for forgiveness.

Then it happened again last night. After cleaning up poop on the kitchen floor from the cat, vomit all over my bed from Karianne (same gunk-gag-barf!), spilled milk, spilled milkshake, mopping the floor 3 times in 30 minutes.....there on the stairs was another bag of candy.
Without much thought...knowing Jeff was not here....knowing the kids were in bed...the flesh screaming it again and I gave in.
I ate 4 mini snickers bars.
Shoved them in like I used to binge.
The flesh won.
I felt like I didn't even need to go to God with repentance- it didn't seem real or genuine.
I went back to Egypt this weekend.
I am struggling with how to feel about this.
I don't want to blame Satan- for it was my choice to sin.
Part of me feels like God allowed me to go back to Egypt for a purpose. (Well, everything He allows is for a purpose!)
But why at 106 days?
I think I am more upset that I can't say now "I've not eaten any sugar in 107 days"....I feel like I have lost my testimony of God's strength.
My "pride" is hurt- how stupid is that!
But then I feel like that is just part of Satan's lies to bring me down right now.
I feel I have let God down....but is that a lie? He knew I was going to do this. He knew I was going to give into the flesh.
I need to use this for His good- I need to get past "myself”, stop the pouting, and get on my knees!
My heart is aching.
I had to confess this to you- God has put it heavy on my heart to do so. I am dreading tell Jeff when he gets home from the beach this afternoon. I feel like a failure. "Help me, Lord"!

Don't think God's gonna release me from this any time soon!

I keep feeling like God is NOT going tom release me from this until I have the food cravings under control.  I still want the junk.  Hard to believe but I do!  If given the ok to eat it I am not sure what I would do.  I still want to go back to Egypt some days.....knowing full well what it did to me for all those years.  And you are right.....I can't fix years worth in just a few months.  Sunday in bed was a vivid reminder of just how far I have come considering that was my everyday life just 96 days ago!

Slow going it seems

10/26
I have lost 2 more pounds this weekend so down 25 now.  But still very slow compared to what I eat.  I still think I am having some die-off as I have had a head ache and am still tired today.  But I count that as blessings!

Deborah:
I know it seems like forever, Karen, but compared to how long you ate the old way verses the new.... I truly believe your body has made remarkable progress. Just a little over three months compared to years?!  Well, shoot -- there is no comparison!  You just keep on, sweet one..... the rewards are still coming to you day by day....

Die off #7?

Ok- so yesterday was die off #7!
In bed all day- so tired I couldn't move- whole body hurt. ( a nice reminder of how I used to feel ALL the time!
Wow- how did I manage to deal with that as long as I did!)
It was the 4th day of Diflucan so I am assuming it conquered another "layer" and it was all built up in my system.
Sunday morning my urine ph was blue again.  Today is as yellow.
I feel better this morning.
My spit test this morning- gross!  huge blob slowly sank down- didn't even separate until it got closer to the bottom. (took pics of course!)

Day 90!

10/20
I am on DAY 90 of yeast free diet!!  Yes, that is right!
90 days without carbs, bread, pizza, soda, sweets, french fries, birthday cake, processed foods, splenda, nutrasweet, corn, peanuts, soy.....still not yeast free inside yet- but making progress!
All my muscle pain is gone, my arthritis is gone, my blood clotting disorder disappeared, my chronic fatigue is gone, diabetes-gone!!!
It has not been easy- but well worth getting my life back!
I encourage everyone that has allergies, skin problems, rashes, infertility, arthritis, fibromyalgia, diabetes(type2), chronic fatigue, sinus problems, depression, thyroid issues, heart problems, any medical problems at all- especially if your doctors are baffled or not really knowing what is going on....look into this.

Yeast overgrowth is a MAJOR source of all illnesses!

Mycology (study of fungus) is not taught in med schools so your doctors most likely are not in tune with this.

I was put on medication after medication only to feel worse.
This is NOT a quick fix crazy diet.
It is eliminating and killing the yeast that has gotten into the gut.  Once in it them  leaks out into the blood stream and attacks ALL major systems in the body.  The thyroid is one of the hardest hit.
It is about getting your gut healthy.
It is about getting your bodies pH back to normal.  An acidic body is a breeding ground for yeast!  They love acid and sugar!
It is about getting your life back- not just losing weight quickly.
I have gone from not being to get out of bed, move my hands, open a milk carton, turn on a turn signal, open a car door to being 95% pain free!
The cure has been ALL diet.
Yes- it would have been nice to have that magic pill or quick fix.
Having to be on such a restrictive diet was not my first choice!
But the other things did not get to the root of what was plaguing me.
I could have saved myself a lot of pain and suffering if I had only known about this ( or was willing to LISTEN to this information) first instead of getting worse and worse from medications and eating foods that just fed the monster even more.
You MUST get to the root of the problem- not just the branch.
Excess yeast in the body is killing so many of us. It seems so innocent- but it is deadly.  Again- most health care professionals are not up to date with this.
They are NOT looking for yeast to be the cause for all these medical conditions.
It's not because they don't care- it's because they don't know! There are archives at Duke all about this- but when penicillin was discovered all that wonderful information about how yeast/fungus affects our bodies was buried.
The medical profession thought they had their magic bullet with antibiotics.  Little did they know- it was a discovery that would cause a lot more problems than it solved.
My 2 mini-strokes in June were a huge wake up call to me.  (ok- and not being able to move and get out of bed!)
My pain and suffering were all due to yeast.
90 days= 23 pounds gone.
Climbing Mt. Rainer.
Playing with my children.
Riding bikes.
LIFE!

Almond meal bread

2 cups almond meal
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
2/3 -1cup real sour cream
2 TB’s olive oil
Stevia(1 TBSP)
Cinnamon(1TBSP)
salt

beat eggs, sour cream,  baking soda, Stevia, salt and olive oil until smooth
add almond meal and blend with mixer
preheat oven to 400
pour mixture into greased glass pie plate
bake 20-25 minutes until done

I put some organic butter on mine!  Yumm!

**I have also made this almond meal bread with pumpkin puree, nutmeg and cinnamon- yumm!
**  I have also started making these into muffins.  I add lots of cinnamon to make them extra yummy!

Fully prepared to be doing this for a while

I am now fully prepared to go through Halloween with no candy and Thanksgiving with no pie!(Thanksgiving food never really is a problem, I don't like most of the traditional stuff).Oh, and the fair with NO food at all! ( we have not been to the fair in 4 years but I actually want to go this year for all the educational stuff.  All the years before it's been all about the food!)

Christmas is going to be a tough one....so I am not even going to think about it yet!( That would hit right at the 5 months mark)

"Finally, sweet child"

10/17
I need to get back to the "once a week" checking of ph, spit and weight.  It's so easy to get focused on those "numbers"(or color!).
I truly feel that God is not going to "release" me from this until my heart is more in love with Him than the food.
I still have the cravings, get upset that I can't have the food I want.  It is getting less and less, though as time goes by.
But I am still battling the flesh on this.
Some moments I just want to go back to Egypt for an hour.
Just an hour- or even just 15 minutes- enough to taste a bite of a donut, a bite of pizza, a huge bite of a Golden Corral yeast roll!
I pray God will NOT give me the desires of my heart on this one and turn me over to my sinful thoughts.  His strength through this has been incredible.
I am not sure if there has been any other event where I have truly had to rely on Him so much to get through.
Oh, there has been lots of tough trials and events in my life.  But this is a daily minute by minute thing- it's flesh against God.
Not sadness over a death, worry over a job lost....but outright flesh fighting for what it wants.
This has been a battle I have been trying to fight for 20 years or more.
I just feel God standing next to me when I have the thought to "just take a bite"- I hear Him saying, "Trust me with this- I will be with you to the end".
Even days when I don't even open the Bible(I know, appalling!) I feel Him with me every minute.  More so than ever.
It's like He's saying,
"Finally my sweet child, you have gotten to the path I wanted you to be on all these years!
Finally, you are doing it my way, not man's way."

Am I getting close?

10/12
Well, this past week about 85-90% of my spit was staying afloat!  Just a few very thin stands went down.  But this morning is was like it was before- as soon as the spit hit the water it went blobbing down.  I am hoping that this means that I have gotten to another layer of yeast and it is surfacing!??

Day 83 today!  Guess I'd better pinch and gulp the nasty grapefruit seed extract! One morning last week I did it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and it was I could do not to throw it back up!  I have been taking taking the tablets more than the extract but have run out of them.

I still have 40 pounds to lose so I have a feeling I won't be done with this until more comes off.  I am in a craving mood again so again, maybe I have gotten to another layer and they are screaming!

Thanks for all your encouragement through this.  I can't tell you how many people God has put in my path for me to be able talk to about diet!  Even in Virginia, one of the moms has MS and I am pretty sure she is ready to give this a try!  I have friends emailing me with stories of their friends who are desperate for help because they are in pain and have been to doc after doc.  So I have been passing my testimony (the one I wrote at 8 weeks) to them to pass to their suffering friends!  God is working in mighty ways!

Time to switch things up a bit...

9/29
Ok, so I am on day 69 today.  No cheating, not even a lick of anything.  My ph goes back and forth between green and blue.  Urine ph is ok.  Spit test......still just streaking down, cloudy...some is staying on top but for the most part it hasn't changed in 69 days.  Some days it will take about a minute to start going down but most days it doesn't take but a few seconds.(I don't test it every day- about 1-2 times/week)

I have gained a pound this week.  Not happy about that.  I have switched to psyllium husks and cut back on the OLE.  I eat eggs for breakfast every morning.(think I am going to start laying some little chicks soon!!!), I make a fruit smoothie for lunch-8-16 oz. Of plain yogurt(Greek style has more protein, less carbs)and a small bag of frozen strawberries and blueberries. This is enough to last me all afternoon- I sip on it for a while!  For supper I eat meat, salad or veggie, maybe some almond bread.  If I get hungry during the day I eat a green apple, almonds...I keep those in my car.
Am I doing something wrong?  Or am I just at another turning point?  Should I get some Nystatin to boost the yeast killing ? Is the smoothie too many carbs?  I just feel like I have stopped with the progress!

I'm trying not to focus on the weight.  All my pants are too big and I have lost several inches in my waist, stomach, and legs.  I don't feel any thinner but people are starting to comment on how great I look.(guess when you are almost dead, anything looks better!!)

I am not giving up by ANY means!! Good golly I have made it way farther than I ever thought I would!  God has just poured out His power on me!  I just wonder if I need to do something different.
Deborah:
Sounds like it is time to switch things up a bit.  Suspend the probiotics for a few weeks.... and switch to Grapefruit Seed Extract. It is at Vitamin Shoppe --- bottom shelf -- and less then $10.... It is a liquid.   It is powerfully bitter... but also very effective against Candida.  It is recommended that one put 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract mixed with juice (I have been known to put it in a swig of my lemon water... but it is BITTER. Thus I pour out literally just a swig of the lemon water into a separate glass, add the GSE .... swig that down (with my nose pinched so I don't taste it.. then quickly take a sip of my lemon water. )  twice a day in between meals for the first 3 days. Increase the dosage to 15 drops twice daily for days 4 through 10. On days 11 through 28, increase the grapefruit seed extract to 15 drops 3 times daily in between meals.  Once you complete this, start the probiotics back up.

As for what you are eating, I would only do the smoothies a few times a week at best.  They are dairy based... and should be done at a minimum ---- certainly the Candida is benefiting from a daily dose of smoothie.... so cut that way back.  Better to have a meat roll-up or salad to switch things up a bit.  Make sure you are not in-taking too many almonds.  Again though they are good for you... nuts are high in calories and fat.

Indeed our culture is suffocated with food....  it is a physical representation to our spiritual condition.  The vast majority of the populous couldn't imagine denying themselves anything the flesh wants.  Like most spiritual things it takes determination to stand against the current and do what is right.

Hang in there....  This really will pass!!

8 weeks ago today....

8 weeks ago today!
by Karen Bundy Barlow on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 10:39am

8 weeks ago today I started on my new journey to get better.  After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, polymyalgia rheumatica, diabetes, lactose intolerance, gluten intolerance, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, IBS, chronic fatigue, depression, weight gain and then the 2 min-strokes in June......it was time to take charge of my health.  I asked a dear friend Deborah Kirby, who has been doing research in why people get sick, to come sit with me and tell me what I needed to do.  I learned very quickly that all my health issues were due to an overgrowth of yeast and fungus.  I know that sounds a little crazy.   But yeast goes way beyond the popular "yeast infection" most women are familiar with.  There are millions of types of yeast and fungi that are NOT supposed to be in our bodies.  But we put them there with medications we take and the foods we eat.
God created our bodies to have a pH- neutral- but every time we drink soda, eat processed foods, take medications that alter our pH, eat fermented foods, load up on sugar....this produces an acidic pH in our gut which provides a breeding ground for yeast and fungus to grow and literally take over every system in our body.
Once our body pH is out of whack the fungi take over, attach to our neurons, rewire them, and wreak havoc.  This is what happened to me.  My body became a petri dish over the years.  Yeast and fungal overgrowth can CAUSE sinus infections, skin problems, muscle pain, arthritis, diabetes, depression, weight gain, cancer, asthma, thyroid imbalance, fatigue, bloating, mood swings, poor memory, migraines, anxiety, chronic pain, muscle weakness, respiratory illness and so much more!
8 weeks ago I was at a point where I could hardly get out of bed.  It hurt to walk, drive, turn the blinker on in the car, open the refrigerator, hold a hairdryer, brush my teeth, get a pot out of the cabinet, pour milk for my children......I hurt all over.  I was in constant pain.  I had no energy at all.  Most days from March- July getting out of bed was either not possible or only done for brief periods of time.  Going to the store would do me in for the day.  It was not much of a life at all.  Especially considering I have 3 children at home to take care of and teach.  I finally reached my breaking point with the strokes.
I had been on so many medications to help me sleep, cope with pain, fix  my fibromyalgia....but none of them worked.
I have tried close to 25 different medications in the last 3 years.   Most all have failed to do what their "intentions" were.  In fact, most have only made my conditions worse or caused another problem in which I would need another medication for!
Back to 8 weeks ago when I met with Deborah.  She taught me all about what the fungus was doing to my body and what I needed to do to get rid of it.
 Diet. Yup.... all diet.
Not another doctor, another pill, a magic solution, no quick fix, no special prepackaged foods to buy......just diet.
All sweets, sugar, breads, carbs, soda(whaa-I loved my Coke 0!), fermented foods, cheese, processed foods, corn, peanuts, soy.....all gone.
Bye-bye.
How on earth was I going to do this?  I lived for my sweets, my diet soda, my bagels and cereal.  I craved them all the time.
As it turns out, all these foods have been feeding the yeast/fungus all these years.  It's like giving cancer what it needs to grow bigger instead of trying to shrink it.  So, I got my list of what I could eat and went forward.
I am on day 56 and still going strong!  3 weeks ago I climbed 7,002 feet on Mt. Rainier.  Wait?  I couldn't get out of bed 3 months ago.
That's right.
With all the foods that were "taken" away......I have been "given" my life back.
God gives and takes away.
 Literally.
I was able to play in the ocean with my kids last week.  I now own a pretty pink bike and can ride it!
I am back in the world again.
Has this diet been easy?
 NO!!!
I still want the foods I can't have.  But me being able to walk, move, and be almost pain free is much greater than anything those foods could offer!
All that pain I was in is 90% gone!
90%.
Am I yeast free yet? Nope....I have no idea how much longer I will have to be on the "kill the fungus" part of this.
But God has brought me through 56 days and He will take me through 56 more if that is what it takes.
It has taken me a while...but I am finally getting to the point that I realize with all the foods gone from my pantry.....God has multiplied it with a variety of wonderful foods that I can eat.
I have never had to go without food in these 56 days.  Even on an airplane to and from Seattle a few weeks ago.
God provided food that was fungus free.
I have lost 18 pounds so far, 6 of which were while I was on a 2 week vacation.
I made it through a week at the beach with no ice-cream.
And I am alive to tell about it!
Was I a little bitter?  Yes...but now...ice-cream does not seem so important to having a good time at the beach.
It was not  so vital to my vacation after all.
Neither was getting the candy at the Neuse Sport Shop as I have done for years.
I hope that in 8 weeks I can post another note such as this one.  Maybe I will be done with the detox stage or I might be still doing some yeast killin'.
Either way...I am glad that God put Deborah Kirby in my life to pass along this life saving information.
I am thankful for my wonderful husband who has cooked almost every night and come up with great new recipes that I can have.
I am thankful that my God did not push me off into a corner to live at my own will.
I am thankful that He loves me enough to keep at me and give me the strength to change so that I can be more like Him, and less like me.
